National Survey Uncovers Top Obstacles Keeping People from Spending Time Outdoors

We have been busy the last several months helping MibeTec Germany, an independent member of the Dermapharm Group, expand its footprint to the U.S. with the launch of bite away®, an electronic medical device used for the external treatment of bites and stings from mosquitoes, wasps, gnats, horseflies, and other pesky insects. As part of the launch, we designed a national survey on behalf of Mibetec U.S. that polled 2,000 U.S. residents and explored key obstacles that prevent people from spending time outside. Additionally, the survey delved into the role social distancing (due to COVID-19) is playing in the time Americans are spending outdoors.

As social distancing becomes the norm, getting outside has never been more important. With benefits ranging from increased productivity and creativity to decreased production of stress hormones, setting aside time to get outside daily is necessary to maintain a healthy mind and body. However, the national survey found that there are a number of barriers that keep people from getting outdoors as often as they’d like, think pesky bugs. Did you know that the itch from mosquito bites alone keeps 58% of people from enjoying picnics and outdoor dining as often as they’d like? During this time when we have been at home and indoors more than ever, it’s important that we understand and dismantle the obstacles to spending invaluable time outdoors. Download the Executive Summary to learn more about the top barriers to getting outside.
