Bloom Communications Hires Healthcare Communications Veteran & Former Journalist

Beth Phillips to Elevate Agency’s Storytelling & Integrated Communications Capabilities

AUSTIN, TEXAS (September 10, 2018) – Bloom Communications, an integrated communications agency specializing in marketing, public relations and research-based consulting, today announced Beth Phillips has joined the firm as an account supervisor.

Phillips brings with her a breadth of experience, having worked in journalism and healthcare communications. Beginning with a career as a newspaper reporter, Phillips has since worked as an associate director of communications at the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center (TTUHSC) and most recently, as communications manager for the Housing Authority of the City of Austin (HACA).

“Beth’s experience in healthcare communications and in working with underserved populations will prove invaluable to our team here at Bloom,” said Brianna McKinney, founder and president of Bloom Communications. “Beth’s decision to take this position speaks to Bloom’s growth and we look forward to utilizing her knowledge to help us continue to provide quality marketing, research-based consulting, and public relations support for our healthcare and life sciences clients, as well as for nonprofits and responsible for-profits.”

Phillips spent nearly a decade at TTUHSC managing communications and public relations efforts for the schools of allied health sciences and nursing, as well as the Laura W. Bush Institute for Women’s Health and the F. Marie Hall Institute for Rural & Community Health. Her work included securing coverage for experts in national publications, such as “USA Today,” “The Washington Post,” and “The American Academy of Pediatrics.” One of the highlights of her career was interviewing Houston neonatologist and star of TLC’s “The Little Couple” Dr. Jennifer Arnold about educational medical simulation and interprofessional teamwork.

While at HACA, Phillips developed and executed a comprehensive communications plan to support the agency’s mission to provide safe, decent, affordable housing to low-income Austin families, while also inspiring self-reliance, growth and optimism. Working as a team of one, she produced award-winning print publications, significantly increased HACA’s social media presence, and spearheaded a successful redesign of the agency’s website.

Phillips graduated from Texas Tech University with a bachelor’s in journalism. Her passion lies in finding the client’s unique story, and leveraging storytelling to strengthen public relations strategy and marketing services.

“Bloom’s focus on tailoring services to the client’s specific narrative speaks to my love of storytelling and my background as a journalist,” Phillips said. “I am honored and excited to be part of a team that prioritizes providing a personalized approach for clients and is enthusiastic about giving back to the community.”
